I was extremely restrained yesterday as I bought only one single root of a climber I’ve had my eye on for a long time. But I do have my eyes on several others which I hope to get on Friday just before getting to the airplane back home

This is the first year that that Poinciana actually flowers in this profusion. After 5 years, I guess it finally feels that it’s mature enough to do so!

It covers the front garden with its petals that every morning the area around it glows with oranges, reds and yellows of its petals.

I’ve tried several times to cultivate hydrangeas in Bahrain but all attempts resulted in failure unfortunately. I fell upon this plant in one of the garden centres here but have no idea what it’s actually called (they didn’t have a label on it and couldn’t find it in the book) but just described it as “it brings clumps of small flowers”. That was enough of a trigger for me to get it and this, my friends, is the first time it flowers.

If you know what it is, please let me know.

I wasn’t very sure that this hibiscus would survive in my garden as it was looking rather poorly for quite a while, but am I really happy that it has filled out all of a sudden and today I see it has this glorious flower on it. Very pretty isn’t it?

The water hyacinth has opened, originally uploaded by malyousif.

I got three water hyacinths yesterday for the pond, as well as a top-up of the butterfly plant and a little dogweed to provide shade for the fish especially now that the temperature in Bahrain is on the increase, and to add colour and texture to the pond as well.

I chose the three hyacinths which were in bud stage so that they can flower in the pond and hopefully for the flowers to stay a little longer.

I didn’t expect that they would flower so soon though, but of course I am very happy to have them in my garden.

This is the first ever water lily in my care. It has just opened this morning! I am really happy with it and love its colour.
