Happy Friday!

There isn’t much happening in the garden at the moment; end of summer, still hot and barely recovering from the onslaught on the house by the painters. Only the toughest plants are flowering at the moment: this portulaca in the Cauldron, some lantanas and of course the frangipanis.

I hope you’re having a wonderful Friday and even better weekend my friends.

Summer is almost at its hight here and it is merciless to the plants, only the toughest survive. Plumerias are definitely tough and very adaptable.

I planted this one just outside of our house and for all the abuse it gets (cars, children, passing fanciers picking its flowers, hostile environment) it continues to grow quite well.

Have a wonderful and fragrant weekend my friends.

Is this my hydrangea?

I’ve tried several times to cultivate hydrangeas in Bahrain but all attempts resulted in failure unfortunately. I fell upon this plant in one of the garden centres here but have no idea what it’s actually called (they didn’t have a label on it and couldn’t find it in the book) but just described it as “it brings clumps of small flowers”. That was enough of a trigger for me to get it and this, my friends, is the first time it flowers.

If you know what it is, please let me know.

Have a wonderful New Year.

Summer flowering Hippaesrum (Amaryllis)

I was amazed a few days ago when I noticed that the Amaryllis was actually budding! The temperature outside is in the 40s now, but inside the house it’s about 24C so I think this is a very confused plant, the result; however, is very very welcome!

Water lilies

The water lilies seem to have settled in their new home. I’ve got three blooms at the same time now, makes me really happy – especially that these blooms are an affirmation that they didn’t suffer to much from the abuse I subjected their plant to when I decided to move it.

Have a wonderful Friday my friends.
