The Datura is full of flowers

Happy Friday my friends.

We came home from Rome early this morning to be greeted with this lovely thing by our front door:

datura

In a space of week, it woke up and produced all of these lovely flowers. It’s quite unfortunate that my gardener decided arbitrarily to chop the thing while we were away last time. I’m nurturing it back with judicious pruning. Hopefully it’ll be okay in a couple of years.

Happy Friday!

There isn’t much happening in the garden at the moment; end of summer, still hot and barely recovering from the onslaught on the house by the painters. Only the toughest plants are flowering at the moment: this portulaca in the Cauldron, some lantanas and of course the frangipanis.

I hope you’re having a wonderful Friday and even better weekend my friends.

Summer is almost at its hight here and it is merciless to the plants, only the toughest survive. Plumerias are definitely tough and very adaptable.

I planted this one just outside of our house and for all the abuse it gets (cars, children, passing fanciers picking its flowers, hostile environment) it continues to grow quite well.

Have a wonderful and fragrant weekend my friends.

Is this my hydrangea?

I’ve tried several times to cultivate hydrangeas in Bahrain but all attempts resulted in failure unfortunately. I fell upon this plant in one of the garden centres here but have no idea what it’s actually called (they didn’t have a label on it and couldn’t find it in the book) but just described it as “it brings clumps of small flowers”. That was enough of a trigger for me to get it and this, my friends, is the first time it flowers.

If you know what it is, please let me know.

Have a wonderful New Year.
