I wish you all an excellent, fulfilling, peaceful 2008 and may anything and everything you attempt to grow through it to bloom!

The petunia border
They’re coming into their own now, just a few weeks since I planted them, and it will only get better before the season is over.
Have a wonderful and peaceful Friday my friends.
Season’s Greetings!
Have a wonderful Eid, Christmas, Hanukkah, and I wish you a very peaceful and prosperous New Year too. Just like Buddha, I guess this year combines all festivities together!
The Oriental Patch’s water feature
Just finished installing the new (old) pond/water fall at its new location. Unfortunately I discovered that the pump has given up the ghost, so I have to go out and find a replacement tomorrow…
Nevertheless, I think the water feature really brings out this part of the garden. What’s an “Oriental garden” without a water feature?
Well, I couldn’t let the area around the pond go to waste, can I? Of course not. So I mixed in a whole bag (50 liters) of compost and planted the following seeds and bulbs:

Snapdragons
The first Antirrhinum to flower in my garden. I grew these plants from seed and am thrilled that they have started flowering now… this is the part of gardening I love most.
Have a wonderful day my friends.
Holiday project number 3, move the old pond!
I’ve just started what is probably the last project of the holidays; this one is to provide a needed water feature for the Oriental patch. I’ve used the same pond I removed in Project #2 and will place it in the area just cleared as you see in the picture.
This holiday has been very productive, gardening-wise!
Holiday Project #2: The Pond
I pass Al-Mahroos, one of the better garden hardware shops on the island, almost every day and I notice a huge banner stuck at the front of their showroom declaring “huge discounts” but I never had the gumption to stop and investigate. After 3 years of collecting tools, I though I had everything I needed to garden, which I do.
But just for the heck of it and as it was the holidays, I thought I’d stop and go in to have a look on Tuesday morning. Browsing around the tool-filled shelves, I noticed that they had pre-formed pond liners which were approximately the same shape as my pond, although much deeper. The deepest part was about 35 cms which was more than 20cms deeper than the water feature I had. The price was very enticing, the sticker said BD24! I thought these things would cost an awful lot more, especially being German made and guaranteed for 10 years. I decided to get one. But as my luck would have it, the salesman told me that the promotion ended on Dec 13th and its price reverted back to BD40.
Damn!

Eid Mubarak
The seasonal petunias and lubilias have taken hold and the whole border promises to look even better over the next few weeks. I love this time of year!
I wish you all a fantastic festive season, whatever you are celebrating, I hope you get much joy and happiness with and from those you share these special occasions with.
Holiday project – Oriental Patch Lighting
The first project of the holidays has finished! I spent today wiring up the Oriental Patch for 3 more lights: a flood directed at Buddha and two lanterns.
This shows the final result, what do you think?
